Waste Reduction Partners is uniquely staffed with retired engineers, scientists, and staff who share their expertise with businesses and communities across North Carolina. As a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, and chemical engineers, scientists, and architects, they have had distinguished careers in a variety of industries, such as automotive, food, textile, utility, chemical, paper, construction, aerospace, electronics, and government. This remarkable group has more than 2,200 years of cumulative experience.

N. Moorthy Muthukrishnan has a distinguished career spanning academia and industry. He spent 11 years as a faculty member and administrator at several Indian universities and four years teaching at NC State University — UNC Asheville Engineering Program. With over 12 years in semiconductor manufacturing and five years in other industries, he has published 40+ technical papers. His research includes solar PV, microgrids, electric vehicles, robotics, and embedded systems.

Education:

Muthukrishnan holds a PMP certification. He earned his M.S. and PhD. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, his MTech. from India Institute of Technology- Madras, India, and his B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PSG Tech-Coimbatore India.

Work History:

Design engineer for greenhouse, equipment, and laboratory applications in agriculture and timber related industries, with plant growth chamber and industrial lumber drying kiln patents.

Work History:

John spent ten years at NC State University where he performed energy surveys with the Energy Solutions Group, and renewable energy assessments with the North Carolina Solar Center. He spent thirty years as an Electrical and Control Systems Engineer in consulting engineering with an emphasis on industrial and utility steam and power generation. He teaches workshops and classes on energy efficiency and renewable energy topics.

Tom Rhodes has 34 years of experience in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.  He served as manager for Burke County’s BERT Recycling Program, and Iredell County’s Recycling Program. As Program Manager for the Department of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service, he developed the NC GreenTravel Initiative Partnership with WRP, East Carolina University’s Center for
Sustainable Tourism, and EDPNC’s Visit NC program. NC GreenTravel Initiative is a sustainability program focusing on waste reduction, water conservation, and energy conservation for North Carolina’s travel and tourism industry.

Education:

Tom holds a diploma in Energy Management from North Carolina State University and a recycling coordinator certification from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Work History:

John performed many energy audits and energy retrofits for the US DOE Schools and Hospitals programs.  He has worked for many years as a mechanical engineer, designing HVAC systems for schools, universities, and hospitals.  These projects included design of boiler and chiller plants, custom air handling units, and green buildings.  He has also served on the North Carolina Energy Ad Hoc Committee for the NC Code Council.

Her experience also encompasses overseeing site work for environmental projects and coordinating information collection requests for the U.S. EPA in Washington, DC.

Kim has a strong energy and international background working in program and project management with Power Africa/USAID in South Africa and the Energy and Environment Partnership. She has managed hundreds of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects across multiple countries. Most recently, Kim has been working as a senior energy and environment consultant for Green Power Technologies in Virginia and NC on innovative renewable energy development projects.
